Vladimir Tkachenko

One of the best guitar players of Belarus and post-Soviet countries. He graduated from the violin department of the Belarus State Conservatory. In 1977, before graduation, he was invited to the folk-rock group ‘Pesnyary’ as a violinist, guitarist, and arranger. That time it was one of the most – if not the most – popular music groups of the USSR. ‘Pesnyary’ was the first of the Soviet groups who went on tour the USSR. This fact by itself proves the highest professionalism of the group’s musicians.

Vladimir left ‘Pesnyary’ in 1985, and from 1986 until now he has been working for the State Concert Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus. During some years he was combining this job with teaching guitar in the Minsk Institute of Culture.

In 1996 Vladimir was granted the title of the ‘Honored Artist of Belarus’.

Vladimir Tkachenko is not only a virtuoso guitarist but also a talented arranger. He created more than 1000 musical arrangements for the State Orchestra, is the author of all musical arrangements for the contest accompaniment during ‘Slavonic bazaar’ international musical contest from the first day of its existence (held in Vitebsk since 1992).

Vladimir is known as a Beatles fan. Together with another ‘Pesnyary’ guitar player, Viktor Molchanov (their duet is called ‘Double Fantasy’) he regularly participates in ‘the Beatles festivals’ in Minsk, Moscow, Saint Petersburg. The musicians produced two great albums ‘Tkachenko/Molchanov play the Beatles’ that were unfortunately released in a very limited number of copies.

Vladimir Tkachenko is the author of big musical pieces such as The Beatles Suite, The Pesnyary Suite, fantasy for chamber orchestra ‘White Russia’ and many others.

Besides, he is the first guitarist in the USSR who started to use two-handed tapping and is considered to be the founder of this technique in the post-Soviet world.
